Wind and Waves

We all know what it feels like to be tossed by wind and waves — pulled by doubt, distracted by competing voices, unsure what will hold. In Colossians 1:21-23, Paul reminds us of where we stood before Christ: alienated from God, hostile in mind, without hope. But through Christ's death on the cross, we have been reconciled — brought near, made holy, and blameless in God's sight. This good news is the whole foundation of our faith; nothing more needs to be added. Our calling now is simply to stand firm, holding fast to Jesus as enough for today and sure for tomorrow.

 

1. Before Christ, Paul says we were "alienated" and "hostile in mind" (v. 21) — where do you still feel that same distance from God today?

 

 

2. Christ's death was meant to present us "holy, blameless, and above reproach" (v. 22) — do you actually believe that's true of you, or are you still trying to earn it?

 

 

3. Paul ties our hope to staying "stable and steadfast, not shifting" (v. 23) — what pulls you off that anchor most, and what would it look like to hold fast this week?
